I have, unfortunately, known some ignorant fuckers who have put their cats and dogs on vegan diets and then were surprised when they died. Putting carnivores on herbivore diets is a bad idea. Period. I work at a boarding kennel and am registered for pre-vet. You have NO IDEA how ignorant people can be of their people’s diets, especially cats. Cats need taurine to live, as they cannot make it on their own, and taurine is almost exclusively found in meats. If you don’t feed your cat meat, this is what happens: With prolonged deficiencies of taurine, cats can develop central retinal degeneration,resulting in blindness.  Dilated cardiomyopathy is another real risk.  In this condition, the heart dilates, its walls become thinner and weaker, making the heart less effective and resulting in a form of heart failure. Your cat will die of heart failure if you force him to be vegan. The best diet for a cat is a raw meat diet, as taurine is destroyed by heat, so an overly processed kibble isn’t as good as wet food, or a raw meat patty.
